01What you learn
Four weeks,four parts.
Everything on the FAA instrument written test, in 12 classes over 4 weeks.
Week 1
The rules for flying in clouds
What the instrument rating lets you do, how to stay current, the equipment the airplane needs, and the airspace rules.
Week 2
Weather and charts
Weather reports for instrument flying, the lowest weather you may fly in, and the charts for departing, flying the route and arriving.
Week 3
Approaches and holding
Flying down to a runway by instruments, holding patterns, what to do when you cannot land, and the navigation systems and autopilot.
Week 4
Planning a flight, and the test
Planning an instrument flight, handling emergencies, a review of the rules, and practice tests.
02How the class works
Class, homework,then your sign-off.
In class
Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings, 6–9 PM. Your instructor teaches the topic, works through examples with the class, and goes over test questions.
Between classes
Online lessons, reading, worksheets and practice questions, assigned in our student portal.
Your sign-off
The FAA asks for an instructor’s sign-off before you take the written test. Come to class, finish the homework and pass two practice tests, and your instructor signs you off.

About theclass.
Do I need my private pilot certificate first?
For the rating itself, yes: the instrument rating is added to a private pilot certificate. You can take this class before your instrument flight lessons or alongside them.
When do I pay the rest?
$100 holds your seat when you sign up. The other $699 is due the first night of class: pay before class or when you arrive. The $100 is part of the $799 total.
Is the FAA test fee included?
No. You pay the testing center when you book the FAA written test, about $175. The class gets you ready for it, and it is where you earn the instructor sign-off you need to take it.
Can I join if I fly at another school?
Yes. Students from any flight school are welcome. Keep flying with your instructor there.
Where is the class?
In person, in our classroom at 2550 N Thunderbird Cir Ste 132, Mesa, AZ 85215, at Falcon Field. Each class has up to 12 students.
What happens after the class?
You book the FAA written test at a testing center and take it. A passing result is good for 24 months, and you need it to take your checkride.
